1.1.3Meaning ‘honeyed, of honey’
There is a broad consensus regarding the meaning of this word (CLL:133; HED M:157; EDHIL:580; cf. already Meriggi 1957b:58; but no meaning in Ünal 2016a:963) based not only on its transparent derivation from Luwian mallit- ‘honey’ (see s.v.) but also on the context: line 6 of the same text lists the ingredients of the mixture as GEŠTIN LÀL Ì.GIŠ ‘wine, honey, oil’, which in turn corresponds to the phrase of the recitation “ma-˹ad˺-[du-ú]-in-zi ma-al-li-ti-in-zi da-a-i-ni-in-zi” ‘of wine, of m., of oil’ (cf. Starke 1985b:112). Exceptions are Starke 1990a:190f.; Haas 2003a:106 and Tischler 2008a:109, Tischler 2016a:206, who translate this word as ‘honigsüß’ (or something similar according to Tischler, for his previous views see below), but this is not supported by the context just quoted (although Starke himself pointed out the parallelism). Finally, Laroche 1959a:66 and HEG L-S:208 treated this word as part of the paradigm of mallit- ‘honey’, which is, however, not possible, since mallit- is neuter (cf. s.v.), unlike the present word.
