1.1.4Meaning

The generic meaning assignment is derived from the determinative GIŠ and the fact that the items are said to rest in a treasure box; cf. Siegelová 1986a:610, CHD P:78, HHw:118, HEG P:400, Ünal 2007a:506, DCL:173).

1.1.5Stem

Since with Siegelová 1986a:610, the stem may very well be a Hittite stem in -want- (with regular singular agreement after the numeral 6, i.e. higher than 4; see also CHD P:78, DCL:173), there is no positive reason to assume a Luwian word, be it a stem in -wa- (DCL:173), -wan- (CLL:165, van den Hout 2006a:248, DCL:173), or -want- (Burgin 2022a:450). The same stance (Hittite -want- stem) is also taken in HEG P:400.

1.1.6Origin

For the rejection of a Luwian origin of the lexeme, see under Stem (with references).
