*ybrs

‘belonging to the granted one ??’

1.1.1Transmission

Reconstructed from a personal name attested in a stele with a priest list (among others) from Hyllarima (its Carian heading is dated to 320 or 320/319, Adiego 2019a:20–22).

1.1.2Forms

gen. sg. yḅrsś C.Hy 1

The attestation follows Adiego 2007a:432 (cf. also Adiego, Debord & Varınlıoğlu 2005a:613), checked against the photograph in Laumonier 1934a:347 Fig. 26a and Adiego, Debord & Varınlıoğlu 2005a:603f. Fig. 1–2.

A further potential case may be present in smδýbrs (C.Ha 1), provided that this form is nom. sg. (it is formally ambiguous, Adiego 2007a:283, 314, 413) and the underlying word is not *ty/ýbr (with *d- after [n], see in general Réveilhac 2023b:260–268 and s.v.). While it probably is a nom. sg. based on the parallel text of C.Si 2 (Simon 2020d:404; nominative according to Melchert 1993d:81 [although with a nominative ending -s, which does not exist, but see below], Hajnal 1997b:154, and Gander in Çörtük & Gander & Holler 2018a:117; dative according to Schürr apud Çörtük & Gander & Holler 2018a:117 n. 65 and Melchert 2010f:183 [since this name group allegedly never appears with a nominative ending -s, but this is not the case, see already Adiego 2007a:283], Melchert 2021b:112), the underlying word remains ambiguous, since the proposed first member ended in *-nt-.

1.1.3Meaning ‘belonging to the granted one ??’

*ybrs is a -s-derivative of *ybr (Adiego, Debord & Varınlıoğlu 2005a:613), and thus it could be its (lexicalised) genitival adjective, but its meaning can currently not be given, since the meaning of the base word is equally unknown, even though there arguments for ‘granted’ or similar, see the discussion s.v.
