1.1.4Meaning
The MUNUStarpāškana- occurs as a functionary in the Ḫuwaššanna festival (Pecchioli Daddi 1982a:400, HHw:169, HEG T:212, Ünal 2007a:700). She drinks from a cup and turns on the spot. Therefore, it is tempting to associate the name of the functionary with the root *trep- ‘to turn’ (DLL:176, repeated in HEG T: 212), which, however, does not occur with its basic meaning anywhere, but only with derived ones. Moreover, in Hittite the vowel -a- before the putative imperfective -ške/a- suffix comes unexpectedly, whereas -ške/a- itself does not comply with Luwian grammar and phonology. Accordingly, Laroche thought of a compound, but the second member awaits identification.
