1.1.2Forms

unknown pu-pu-la-a-[ KBo 29.34 i 15’ (CTH 770, NS)

The analysis as a verb is based on the position within the clause after a sentence-initial particle chain, the object, the subject and a temporal adverb.

[E.R.]

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv.

[E.R.]

1.1.4Meaning

The fragmentary context is entirely unclear and precludes any informed semantic analysis (see attestation in DLL:82 without any comment). Also, the tentative equation with HLuw. pu-pa-la- ‘to write, draw’ by Sasseville 2021a:40 does not yield a convincing interpretation. Accordingly, Melchert’s (DCL:s.v.) skepticism is shared here.

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

The spelling with stem-final plene -a- is compatible with, but not conclusive for the assignment to the class of factitives in -a-(ti) proposed by Sasseville 2021a:40.

[E.R.]

For the lemma head see CLuw. *pū-(di).
