1.1.4Meaning
No translation is offered in Otten 1953a:54, CLL:79, HHw:57, or Yakubovich & Mouton 2023a:6-11). Occurring in a list of house parts in variable order (household deities, wooden frame, ground, niche, hearth, threshold), the word must denote yet another part (Laroche 1954a:122, DLL:49, Meriggi 1957b:71f., DCL:s.v.). Laroche’s (Laroche 1954a:122, followed in HW:384) attempt to equate ḫu(wa)ḫḫuršant(i)- with Hitt. é.šà-nant- (tunnakišnant-) on account of the alleged parallelism with KUB 7.41 i 19 fails due to the obvious differences of the two lists. Meriggi 1957b:71f. tentatively matches ḫu(wa)ḫḫuršant(i)- with ḫalḫaltumari- ‘corner’, which finds at least minimal support in the reduplication and plural forms in both words, but definite proof is lacking.
[E.R.]
1.1.5Stem
The transparent stem formation permits an analysis as reduplication syllable ḫu(wa)- plus root -ḫḫurš- plus the polysemous suffix -ant(i)- (Laroche 1961b:59, HEG A-K:321).
