1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Unknown. The interpretations of the two signs have long been opaque to scholars. Only recently, an interpretation as OCULI has been put forward for *476, while *311 has been proposed to represent 〈asha〉 by Oreshko 2020b:342-344. The resulting phonological interpretation may be /ashahirud-/ and be cognate with Hittite išḫaḫru- ‘tear’ (thus Oreshko 2020b:344, 354), but further evidence is needed for corroboration.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning ‘tears’ is suggested by Oreshko 2020b:352f. on the basis of the signs used and adopted here tentatively. KARKAMIŠ A17c, §5 constitutes the only fully preserved clause of the inscription and reads: *a-wa/i-tá DOMUS-ní *476.*311 NEG2 kwa/i+ra/i INFANS? ...-i (CRUX)wa/i-la su-ni-ha, approx. /a=wa=tta parni … na kwari ...-i wala sun(n)ihha/, meaning ‘while in the house, I did not shed tears(?) … (for/to?) a child(?) dying’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:193).
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
If the proposal by Oreshko 2020b:344 should be correct, the word would be a neuter gender noun in /-d-/. However, more evidence and especially some syllabically spelt attestations would be welcome.
