Etruscan tamera
‘tomb chamber’1.1.1Transmission
Steinbauer 1999a:384 suggests that the Etruscan word tamera ‘tomb chamber’ (this meaning is now generally accepted, see De Simone 2008a:184; Wallace 2008a:154, contra Pallottino 1988a:486 [‘a title’]) is a loanword from an “in den anatolischen Sprachen bezeugten Verb tam- “bauen”” (cf. also Lebrun 2006c:372). Oettinger 2010a:241 classifies this suggestion as “vielleicht” and “äußerst unsicher”, without providing arguments. Since Steinbauer himself admits that there is no evidence for the suffix -(e)ra-, this etymology cannot be accepted.
