1.1.4Meaning
The incomplete word maraḫaššal[ is found after the signs ]AN-ŠI, which can be read as DINGIRLIM (also mentioned in the previous line), or as a particle chain, i.e. na]-an-ši. If the former is correct, maraḫaššal[ could be interpreted as a divine epithet. Regardless of the restoration of the context, we are likely dealing with an adjectival formation in -alla/i- (or a noun in -alla- c.). From an etymological perspective, the root can be directly connected to that of CLuw. mariḫš(i)- ‘fuzz’ and maraḫšiwal(i)- ‘having fuzzes’, with the same vocalism as the latter. Nonetheless, this does not result in direct access to a semantic interpretation, especially with the differing suffix chain; see under Stem.

1.1.5Stem
If maraḫaššal[ should reflect a formation in -alla/i- (or -alla- c.), it would be based on a (subs.) formation in -ašša/i-, built on a root noun *maraḫ-. Due to the gemination of the -šš-, an s-stem is unlikely here, as in mariḫš(i)-, unless the gemination is faulty (on the distinction, see Sasseville 2018a). Therefore, more evidence is needed and no weight should be placed on this partly broken word.

For the lemma head see CLuw. mariḫš(i)-.
