1.1.4Meaning

The Palaic word purtaḫi- refers to something negative that the ram and the bull that are about to be sacrificed to the Palaic pantheon do not have. Sasseville 2019a:24 and Sasseville & Yakubovich 2018a:48 n. 5 suggest a convincing etymological connection with Luwian paratta- n. ‘impurity (vel sim.). Therefore, purtaḫi- c. can be translated as ‘impurity’.
