1.1.4Meaning
Due to the fragmentary context, any suggestion must be considered tentative. Nonetheless, it appears as if the word refers to a negative action applied to a negative thing. Shevoroshkin 1969a:253 and Melchert (CLL:192) suggest on phonological grounds an etymological connection with Lyc. B sla-(ti) ‘to offer in sacrifice’ and Lyc. A hlm̃me/i- (repeated in Frotscher 2012a:151, though with skepticism).Shevoroshkin 1977a:144 also compares Hitt. šēli- c. ‘grain’, which does not lead anywhere. However, a more suitable etymology for the Lycian verb is preferred on semantic grounds (see under the lemmata).

1.1.5Stem
Nothing certain can be said about the verbal stem class, except that it very likely represents a reduplicated verb.
