1.1.4Meaning
No meaning is offered in DLL:102 and CLL:244. [+No mention in HHw and HEG. Erroneous Starke 1990a:167 “groß”.] Carruba 1992a:252 was the first one who attempted a translation, i.e. ‘grandmother’, analyzing urann(i)- as a compound of ura/i- ‘great’ and ann(i)- ‘mother’. The context at KBo 9.141 i 16’.19’ seems to support this claim, since other kinship names are mentioned as well: ann(i)- ‘mother’, annawann(i)- ‘step-mother’ or ‘mother-in-law’ and tatawann(i)- ‘step-father’ or ‘father-in-law’. However, the transparent stem formation of tatawann(i)-, which can be combines the noun tat(i)- with the comparative suffix -wa/i- and the individualizing suffix -ann(i)-, shows that -ann(i)- in urann(i)- may equally well be the individualizing suffix, instead of ann(i)- ‘mother’. This opens up the possibility that urann(i)- denotes any kind of (female?) elder relative or is the generic term for (female?) elder relatives (similar Yakubovich 2017d: ‘ancestor (?)’).

1.1.5Stem
Starke 1990a:167 assumed that urann(i)- was derived from urai(ya)-, but this is impossible since the approximant -y- of the relational suffix -i(ya)- would not disappear. Instead, the two options laid out under Meaning are the only viable alternatives, viz. either a compound of ura/i- ‘great’ (Carruba 1992a:252) and ann(i)- ‘mother’, or a derivative of ura/i- ‘great’ with the individualizing suffix -ann(i)- (cf. CLL:244).
