1.1.4Meaning

Based on the context, the DUGzandakuwaramma/i- denotes a vessel that can be filled with wine, but otherwise no information can be drawn from anything except its etymology. The Luwian label zanda-kuwaramma/i- means ‘cut underneath’ and can be equated with the Hittite name DUGkattakuranta- and the other Luwian name anna(n)kuratta/i-. For a discussion of these names, see under the lemma of the latter.

[D.S.]

1.1.5Stem

The designation zanda-kuwaramma/i- is a univerbation made of the Luwian preverb zanda ‘under’ and the participle kuwaramma/i- built on the strong grade of the verb kwar-/kūr- ‘to cut’.

[D.S.]

1.1.6Origin

The Luwian origin of the designation of the vessel is made clear by its morphology and etymology.

[D.S.]

For the lemma head see CLuw. kwar/-kūr-.
