1.1.4Meaning

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

It is tempting to analyze the word (if complete) as a root gull- plus syncopated possessive -want(i)- suffix plus abstract suffix -att(i)-, transformed into an i-stem in Hittite. However, this remains speculative in the absence of additional evidence and particularly a semantic interpretation.

[E.R.]

1.1.6Origin

The lack of assibilation in the -att(i)- suffix, the root gull- and the syncope of the -want(i)- suffix point to a Luwian loan word in Hittite (thus also cautiously DCL:s.v.).

[E.R.]

For the lemma head see CLuw. *gull-.
