| nom. sg. | ku-wa-lu-ti-iš | KUB 12.1 iii 16 | (CTH 504, NS) |
| ]ku-wa-lu-ti-iš | KBo 18.161 obv. 15’ | (CTH 242, LNS) | |

| acc. pl. | KUB 58.89 ii 5 | (CTH 832, NS) |
Despite the word at KUB 12.1 iii 16 being preceded by the numeral 9, it shows singular agreement as it is expected for numerals greater than 4, cf. Hoffner & Melchert 2008a:158f., Rieken 2013a.

1.1.4Meaning
The kuwaluti- is a (small) object or an ornament made with blue color (ZA.GÌN) or of blue stone (NA4ZA.GÌN) or perhaps even made of carnelian (?) (TUR NA4) (see Košak 1978a:107, Košak 1982a:105). It is usually left untranslated; cf. Košak 1982a:105, Siegelová 1986a:443, HEG I-K:687f. Starke 1990a:214 suggests an etymological connection with the Luwian root kwal- ‘to turn’, suggesting the meaning ‘ring (?)’ (followed tentatively by Tischler 2008a:98 and Melchert in DCL:s.v.).

1.1.5Stem
The noun contains the suffix chain -u-ti- (Luwian proper -u-t(i)-). Starke 1990a:214 assumes that the Luwian suffix should be restored as -utti- (fortis!), parallel to Hitt. -uzzi-, but this is not cogent, since a lenited variant may have existed alongside the regular one, in e.g. CLuw. arūt(i)-.

1.1.6Origin
The Glossenkeil speaks a priori for a Luwian origin of the word, but for the difficulties with the phonology and its origin cf. kālu(t)t(i)- under Reconstruction.
