1.1.4Meaning

The parallel incipits mention the duššaniyalla-, who is supposed to enable someone else to perform: “Let the duššaniyalla- functionary give me (an) action(s)/act!” However, the generalized wording does not permit a further specification of the meaning (Sasseville 2014-2015a:117, Kloekhorst 2006c:117 n. 15; no meaning is offered in DLL:100, CLL:237, HHw:182).

1.1.5Stem

Melchert (CLL:237) points out that a nom. sg. in -aš, instead of -iš, is unexpected, but Sasseville 2014-2015a:117 plausibly claims that the suffix found in duššaniyalla- and other nouns in -alla- goes back to complex *-él-eh2- with individualizing *-eh2-. Accordingly, the noun belongs to the non-mutating class in -a-.
