1.1.3Meaning
Based on the logogram and the determinative, the meaning of this lexeme is certainly related to bovine. However, the neuter gender inflection speaks for a word different than /waw(i)-/ and, thus, perhaps, for a derivative of the latter. Hawkins 2000a:632 suggests for the meaning ´a group of oxen´, which is plausible, but lacks independent support.

1.1.4Stem
Hawkins 2000a:270 interprets the word BOS(ANIMA)-za-´ to be a collective of the lexeme /waw(i)-/ ‘ox, bull, cattle’. However, the sign clearly indicates a neuter gender noun in the singular , whence an equation with the latter with collective semantic must be excluded (pace Hawkins loc. cit.).

For the lemma head see HLuw. /waw(i)-.
