(-)liyūnni

‘(unknown)’

1.1.1Transmission

The verb, if complete, occurs twice in the same passage from songs transmitted on the Lallupiya tablet (NS).

1.1.2Forms

1pl. pres. act. (-)li-⸢i⸣-ú-un-ni KUB 25.37 ii 37 (CTH 771, NS)
  (-)⸢li-i-ú-un⸣-ni KUB 25.37 ii 38 (CTH 771, NS)

Though not assured, the interpretation as a verb in -unni (following CLL:126 and HHw:95) requires no additional assumptions and is hence maintained here.

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – It is far from clear that li-i-la preceding li-i-ú-un-ni at ii 37 represents a separate word.  In view of the lack of a space and the assonances with līlu- and lāl(i)-, līla can also belong to liyūnni, resulting in a playful kind of singing (thus li-i-la-li-i-ú-un-ni in DLL:63). Before ⸢li-i-ú-un-ni in the following line, the tablet is broken off. Very hesitant also CLL:126 and HHw:95.

1.1.4Meaning

No meaning has been assigned so far (DLL:63, CLL:126 and HHw:95). If the reading li-i-la-li-i-ú-un-ni were correct, one could speculate that we may be dealing with an onomatopoetic verb for singing.

1.1.5Stem

CLL:126 offers lī(ya)- as the stem, implying that both lī- and liya- are possible (and lī-la-lī(-ya)-, for that matter).
