*arliom
‘(a substantive / an adjective)’1.1.1Transmission
Reconstructed from personal names attested in Memphis, between c. 610-570 and 500-470 (Kammerzell 1993a:169‒171), also known from Greek transmission in the 5th-4th c. (LGPN V.B:59 s.v.) and in Egyptian spelling (E.Me 9, c. 610-570).

| gen. sg. | Arliomś | E.Me 43b | M35 |
| Arlio[mś] | E.Me 9, 1-2 | M1 |
The attestations follow Adiego 2007a:355, checked against the photographs in O. Masson 1978a:Pl.I, 1; II, 1; XX, 2. The restoration in E.Me 9 by Adiego 2007a:42 is contextually and syntactically motivated and fitting. For the attestations of Αρλιομος, the Greek form of Arliom (cf. already Adiego 1990a:134), see LGPN V.B:59 s.v.; for the Egyptian spelling Jrym3 see Adiego 2007a:42. Schürr 1992a:134 cautiously suggested that Arliom is a dialectal variant of Arjom (see s.v., later [Schürr 2010c:201] even suggesting that latter is only a misspelling of Arliom) and Adiego 2007a:354 also entertained the possibility that they are “variants”, but these suggestions are not correct, see the discussion s.v. *arjom.

1.1.3Meaning ‘(a substantive / an adjective)’
The word *arliom is clearly a regular derivative of a nominal stem *arl(V)- with the well-attested -j/iom suffix (Adiego, Tiverios, Manakidou & Tsiafakis 2012a:200 and Yakubovich 2017c:22, cf. also Melchert 1999a:244 and s.v. *kbiom / *kbjom). Formally speaking, this stem can be identical to the base word of the Cuneiform Luwian verb ārlanuwa- (as per Melchert 1999a:244 and Yakubovich 2017c:22). However, the meaning of this verb and of the stem *ārla- is debated (see s.v.) and, accordingly, the translations of *arliom are very different (a connection with ‘place’ [Yakubovich 2017c:22] and ‘of property’ > ‘rich, wealthy’ [Melchert 1999a:244]). Further research is needed to clarify this issue.
