†parŋa-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
Following an idea of Adiego 1993b:263, Hajnal 1995b:20 interpreted parŋaq of C.Tr 2 as ‘I built’ from “*párneu̯ā-ḫa” (supported by Adiego 2007a:290f., for the theoretical possibilities see also Duhoux 2008a:61; Hajnal & Zipser 2017a:277 n. 5 repeated this translation, ignoring the alternative analysis of Kloekhorst quoted below; on the reading of the last letter see Adiego 2007a:131 with refs. and Kloekhorst 2008a:140). This is, however, not possible phonologically (Kloekhorst 2008a:139; Simon 2019b:3 n. 5).
Moreover, Kloekhorst 2008a:139–141 demonstrated on contextual and formal grounds that we are dealing with a personal name Parŋa with the enclitic particle =q ‘and’ (see s.v., followed by Simon 2019b:3).
Whether the personal name Parŋa has anything to do with the Carian word par(a)- or with the term praŋida ‘Branchidai’ (for both possibilities see Adiego 2007a:290, for these Carian words see s.vv.), requires further research.
