1.1.1Transmission
The form in question is attested in the ritual of Tunnawiya.

1.1.2Forms
| acc. sg. c. | KUB 12.58 i 22’ | (CTH 409, NS) |
The above reading is found in Laroche 1959a:26, CLL:10, HW 2nd ed. A:58 (also presupposed in Ünal 2007a:17, Ünal 2016a:55, and van den Hout 2006a:247), all assuming that the first sign is a gloss marker. More recently, however, HEG U–Z:234 corrected the transliteration to wa-al-li-in (cf. under Graphic Features).

1.1.3Graphic Features
Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – Following the reading wa-al-li-in suggested in HEG U–Z:234, the alleged gloss marker assumed by other scholars is instead the initial part of the sign WA, i.e. the two Winkelhaken, while both the following vertical and the horizontal wedge are broken off. Note that there are no other gloss markers in this exemplar (although it shows words like
ušantari- [cf. under the respective lemma] that are attested with gloss marker in other texts). A survey of Kizzuwatna rituals belonging to the same group of texts (according to Melchert 2013b:166) generally showed only a limited use of gloss markers (cf. Busse 2018-2019a:23f.). Hence, it is more likely that the scribe (mPikku) did not use any gloss markers in this text at all. Tischler’s reading is also supported by the context (see under Meaning).

1.1.4Meaning
No meaning is indicated for this word, only the classification as a noun (cf. Laroche 1959a:26, CLL:10, HW 2nd ed. A:58, Ünal 2007a:17, Ünal 2016a:55, and Tischler 2008a:14). Differently, Tischler (HEG U–Z:234, Tischler 2016a:8) assumes that the attested form actually belongs to CLuw. walli- ‘thigh bone’. This is based on a proposal by Haas 2002b:506f., who points to another co-ocurrence of ḫaštāi ‘bone’ and walli- ‘shank, thigh’ (see under Lemma), in addition to the present context at KUB 12.58 i 21’f. (cf. Goetze & Sturtevant 1938a:8f., Cornil 1999a:9, CHD Š:585 and HEG U–Z:234): (21’)[... t]e-pu SÍGmi-i-ti-iš te-pu nu šu-um-ma-an-za ⸢SÍG⸣mi-i-ti-iš-ša (22’)[... -]an-za ti8mušen-aš pát-tar ḫa-aš-ta-i te-pu x(-)⸢al⸣-li-in te-⸢pu⸣ ‘[... a small] quantity; red wool, a small quantity – the bulrush/thread? and the red wool [... (are) combin?]ed; an eagle’s wing; bone, a small quantity; walla/i-, a small quantity.’
[A.B.] [E.R.]
1.1.5Origin
The attestation misread as
⸢al⸣-li-in was mostly assumed to be of Luwian origin (cf. Laroche 1959a:26, CLL:10, HW 2nd ed. A:58, Melchert 2005a:449 and van den Hout 2006a:247) probably based on the alleged gloss marker (cf. under Graphic Features). As explained above, the assumed Glossenkeilwort
allin is a ghost-word.
