1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The phonological interpretation of the word behind the logogram can be hypothetically /maradan=za/; cf. /maratta-/ and /maraT(i)-/ (with logogram LOQUI). However, since there are other lexemes with different roots, which are written with the Logogram L.22 (LOQUI), it is best not to reconstruct anything for this lexeme.

1.1.4Meaning

The context of “LOQUI”-tà-zà-’ is different from the one, in which the lexeme maratta- is used. In this case, “LOQUI”-tà-zà-’ refers to the following direct speech and is the direct object of the verb /assazza-/ ‘to say, pronounce’. Unfortunately, the inscription breaks off shortly after the beginning of the direct speech, which prevents us from determining the precise semantics of “LOQUI”-tà-zà-’. Hawkins 2000a:475 suggests tentatively the meaning ‘word’.

[D.S.]

1.1.5Stem

Because of the new reading of the sign <tà> /da/, “LOQUI”-tà-zà-’ cannot represent the same lexeme as /maratta-/ n. (Rieken 2008b:644).
