1.1.4Meaning

Starke 1990a:230 points out that GIŠtīran- occurs in a list of objects. He attributes the lexeme to the same root as the one of tiraimma/i- (an epithet of the sky), but does not offer any semantic interpretation (nor do CLL:227 or Tischler 2008a:199). The objects among which GIŠtīran- is listed are part of a feast for the gods and all of them are wašḫaiya ‘consecrated (?)’. Using the comparative evidence from CLuw. tir(a)i-(di) ‘to roast, blaze (?)’, it is likely that the GIŠtīran- represents a wooden object used for the purpose of roasting. However, definite proof is lacking.

1.1.5Stem

Starke 1990a:130 interprets tīrana as the nom./acc. pl. of a neuter n-stem tīran- (followed by CLL:227).

1.2.4Meaning

The word is left untranslated by Hazenbos 2003a:156. The mention of utensils in the context supports the equation with the CLuw. word tīran- ´(tool for roasting) (?)´, although the fragmentary state of the context hinders any proper verification.

[D.S.]

1.2.5Stem

A neuter n-stem is suggested here; see under the CLuw. above.

[D.S.]

For a reconstruction of the likely related root, see CLuw. tir(a)i-(di).
