*πιγερδoταρι-

‘(unknown)’

1.1.1Transmission

The four attestations of the personal name Πιγερδοταρι- are found within the same inscription dated to the 3rd century BCE (Brixhe & Özsait 2001a:156).

[D.S.]

1.1.2Forms

gen. sg. Πιγερδoτα[ρις] N 37 (Yayla de Senitli)
  [Π]ιγερδoταρις N 37 (Yayla de Senitli)
  Πιγερδoτ[α]ρις N 37 (Yayla de Senitli)
Πιγερδoταρις N 37 (Yayla de Senitli)

The personal name Πιγερδοταρι- was previously read as two separate names, i.e. Πιγερ and Δοταρις (Brixhe & Özsait 2001a:161-163). Adiego 2012b:18-20 argues convincingly for a single name, which designates in each instance of inscription 41 the name of the grandfather (followed by Brixhe 2016a:92), and he maintains the connection of the second member with the personal name Δωταρι-, established by Birxhe & Özsait (loc. cit.).

[D.S.]

1.1.3Origin

The vowel of the first syllable represented by <o> in -δοταρι- differs from the one in Δωταρι-. The variance o/ω is encountered in other Pisidian words and it has been suggested to be purely graphic; cf. [4807] Zgusta 1957a:581, [4462] Brixhe 1988a:139-140. Therefore, there is no reasons to doubt that the second member of the compound is the lexeme *δωταρι-.

[D.S.]

For the each member of the compound see *πιγερ- and *δωταρι-.
