KUB 35.130, 2

(CTH 770, NS)

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – A peculiarity of the fragment are indentations marked by two diagonal wedges. Obviously, they do not function as gloss wedges (contra Güterbock 1956a:125, DLL:109); cf. also KUB 35.129 with the same peculiar feature.

[E.R.]

1.1.4Meaning

The fragmentary context does not permit any conclusions about the meaning of the verb (see DLL:109, Weitenberg 1977a:50, CLL:261, HHw:196, Sasseville 2021a:504 n. 14). Only Starke 1990a:339f. n. 1202 assumes that it is a denominative formation based on warp(i)-, which he translates as ‘(practical) experience, skill’ (but see now under HLuw. /warp(i)-/). This is a possibility, but not more than that.

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

The form in -ššātta led scholars to analyze the verb as a -šša- derivative (iterative vel. sim.; cf. DLL:109, Starke 1990a:339, CLL:261, Sasseville 2021a:504 n. 14).

1.2.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – For the reading, see the comment in de Roos 2007a:137 n. 291, but as indicated above, it is highly tentative.

[E.R.]

1.2.4Meaning

Due to the fragmentary context, no semantic interpretation is possible. Even if the reading is correct and the word belongs to CLuw. warpašša-(i), no information can be drawn from this, since the latter is opaque, too.

[E.R.]

1.2.5Stem

If read correctly, the word belongs to the class of -šša-(i) imperfectives.

[E.R.]

1.2.6Origin

The word is listed here on account of the gloss wedge marking and the root warp- known also from Luwian (see also DLL:107f., CLL:260 s.v. (Glossenkeil)warpa/i-, de Roos 2007a:137 n. 291, HEG U-Z:351 s.v. warpatalla-, van den Hout 2006a:246).
