1.1.3Meaning

This lexeme occurs in a highly fragmentary passage reading as ]-ti : tubehidi : axãti : uz[. The lack of contextual information severely hinders any in-depth analysis. However, DLL:72 gives the meaning ‘class/collectivity of those who are tubehe/i-‘ and Schürr 2012a:121 maintains that the term is a part of a title. Assuming some semantic relationship to the base tube- ‘strike, battle (vel sim.) (?)’ (see Stem), a meaning ‘warrior class (vel sim.) (i.e. ‘class/collectivity of those who are of the battle’, using Melchert’s analysis) is possible, but unverifiable.

1.1.4Stem

If tubehidi is a dat./loc. sg. form, this word is a neuter stem in -id- (thus in DLL:72). However, it is also conceivable that tubehidi is a derived adjective in -i(je)-, in turn formed to a stem in -id-, modifying the following axãti ‘(sacrificial officiant) (?)’ (see Lyc. A axãt(i)-), cf. e.g. przzidi(je)- ‘of the first rank’. Due to the fragmentary attestation, neither analysis is verifiable. In either case, the word tubehid- must have existed, most likely ultimately derived from the gen. adj. of tube- ‘strike, battle (vel sim.) (?)’.

For the derivational base, see Lyc. tube-.
