1.1.3Meaning
The verb qanuwe-(ti) is analyzed as a derivative in -nuwe-(ti) from the base qa-(ti) ‘to strike, beat’ (Sasseville 2021a:478 with further literature). It occurs in a curse formula, where the punishing agent is the mother of the local precinct. Contextually speaking, no difference can be made in the semantics between the base and its derivative. However, the direct object of qanuweti in TL 110.3 is anything that can be built. By taking the function of the causative suffix -nuwe-(ti) into consideration, one expects the verb to mean ‘to cause to be destroyed’ (thus DLL:54, contra Hajnal 1995a:162 n. 180, Lebrun 1999a:52). Therefore, it would mean that the mother of the local precinct will not be performing the action herself, but will have some other agent do it (Sasseville 2021a:478f.).
