Hapax in a graffito from the tomb of Montuemhat in Thebes around the mid-7th c. BCE (during the rule of Psammetichus I).

1.1.2Forms

unknown bebnd E.Th 6

The attestation follows Adiego 2007a:358; no photo has been published as of today. Due to the lack of proper publication the basis of Masson’s reading bebnd (correcting the drawing that shows only bebn) is, strictly speaking, unknown (allegedly Leclant’s unpublished photographs and drawings, Adiego 2007a:95, 98).

1.1.3Meaning ‘(unknown)’

Since the entire graffito allegedly consists of this single word, it is impossible to define its meaning without further evidence beyond the obvious possibility of a personal name. Adiego 2007a:358 cautiously (“perhaps”) suggests that it is related to bebint (see s.v.). However, in this case the ‹d› instead of ‹t› requires an explanation, which was not provided. Note furthermore that its form is not assured (see under Form) and strictly speaking not even its existence, as it has not yet been published properly.
