1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The denasalization of the acc. pl. in -izi was already noticed by Hoffner 1974a:190.

1.1.4Meaning

As is typical for artonyms, a further specification is not possible, hence the generic interpretation as ‘a type of bread’ (DLL:107, Otten 1974a:296, Hoffner 1974a:190, CLL:259, Del Monte 2004a:340 and 344, Ünal 2007a:788, HEG U-Z:334f.).

1.1.5Stem

It is obvious that the lexeme is built from a base *warm- or *warma by means of the suffix -ann(i)-. Without knowing more of its semantics, the base *warm- or *warma- cannot be linked to any other lexeme.

[E.R.]

1.1.6Origin

Since DLL:107, the word has been unanimously classified as Luwian (DLL:107, Otten 1974a:296, Hoffner 1974a:190, CLL:259, Melchert 2006a:452, van den Hout 2007a:249, HEG U-Z:334f.). Evidence is provided by the suffix and the ending, further supported by the occurrence of other Luwianisms in the text (šarladdaššiš, piḫaddaššiš, kuwanzunaššiš, partanninzi, zamnaššaš, alalunza).
