1.1.4Meaning

The genitival adjective modifies the sheep that has been treated with the liver action, i.e. īkkunāwunta, (Starke 1990a:538f.). Its meaning depends on the ultimate base ikkuwar/n-, translated here as ‘liver’.

[D.S.]

1.1.5Stem

The genitival adjective belongs to a base *īkkūnawar/n- or *īkkūnauna(/i)-, which represents either an abstract noun in -war/n- (Starke 1990a:537) or a substantivized infinitive in -una (though ultimately the same morpheme); cf. Sasseville 2021a:191f.

[D.S.]

1.1.6Origin

The Luwian origin of the noun is clear from its morphology, its derivational base, and its occurrence in the Luwian ritual of Kuwattalla and Šilalluḫi (Starke 1990a:537f., Melchert (CLL:86), HW2 I:36).
