1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation provided assumes that the word is based on a loan from Akkadian kitru (kiterru) ‘preferential share’, see the discussions below. Due to the spelling system, some other interpretations are also possible (Hawkins 2000a:149), e.g. /kitar(r)a-/ (thus e.g. Giusfredi 2012a:155) and /kitra-/. The stem final /d/ underwent deletion in the endingless nom./acc. sg. before the neuter particle /=sa/ was attached, cf. Melchert 2003b:182.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning was first proposed by Hawkins 2000a:149 and is based on the putative origin of the word as well as on the context. The lexeme occurs twice in the same inscription, in clauses that run largely parallel. CEKKE, §13 records: URBS+MI-ní-pa-wa/i 20 tá-mi 10 INFANS-ni ki-tara/i-sa (PUGNUS+PUGNUS)hi-sà-hi-mi-na, approx. /…-ni=ba=wa … tammi … niwaranni kitri=sa hishimina/, translating as ‘In the city, a bequest? is to be bound to 20 adults(?) and 10 children’,It is fully expected for the two nouns preceded by numerals to inflect as singulars, see Bauer 2014a:100. followed a few clauses later by CEKKE, §16: wa/i-ta tá-ra+a-za INFANS.NI-WA/I-za-ha ki-tara/i-sa (PUGNUS+PUGNUS)hi-sà-hi-mi-na, approx. /wa=tta tadanz nimuwizzanz=ha hishimina/, meaning ‘A bequest? is to be bound to the fathers and the sons’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:145 and Melchert 2004c:360).

1.1.5Stem
Assuming with Hawkins 2000a:149 that the word is a borrowing from Akkadian kitru ‘preferential share’, the stem has been adapted to Luwian morphology with the addition of a /-d-/ to form a neuter gender noun (see Yakubovich 2015b:6.2).
[AH.B.]
1.1.6Origin
This word is assumed by Hawkins 2000a:149 to be a loan based on Nuzi Akkadian kitru (kiterru) ‘preferential share’, which in turn may be a loan from Hurrian (see CAD K:468).
