Laroche 1959a:37 interprets eš-ti as a verbal form in the 3sg. present active and compares the form eš-ša-an-ti (KUB 35.133 iii 3), although Melchert (CLL:93) points out that the grammatical interpretation of any of these forms is far from certain. For the interpretation as an indeclinable word, see under Meaning.

1.1.4Meaning
The word išti (spelled ešti) occurs in two sentences uttered in immediate succession. A verbal interpretation is not likely, because each of the two clauses already contains a verb, i.e. manadu and uwintar. A more attractive interpretation would be to compare the Lydian preposition išt ‘with respect to’, which would show loss of the short word-final vowel. Still, even if the equation with Lyd. išt ‘with respect to’ is correct, that does not necessarily entail that the Luwian word has the same meaning or even belongs to the same morphological category; a simple adverb or even preverb remains possible. A more concrete interpretation must await further evidence.
