1.1.3Meaning ‘to purify’
There is a general and justified agreement that this word means ‘to purify’ (Laroche 1959a:38; CLL:46; HED Ḫ:13; Tischler 2008a:39, Tischler 2016a:58; Ünal 2016a:955; Sasseville 2018b:416) being a causative derivative of ḫalal(i)- ‘pure’, see s.v., which is fitting also the partly fragmentary context. The meaning of the imperfective form was described as iterative (CLL:46 and Tischler 2016a:58) or factitive-iterative (Laroche 1959a:38), but Sasseville 2018b:416 correctly argued on contextual grounds that it is distributive.
