1.1.1Transmission

The attestations are found in two small duplicate fragments from the Kuwattalla tradition (NS).

1.1.2Forms

abl./instr. ú-i-ta-a-la-ti KUB 35.73, 7’ (CTH 763, NS)
  ú-i-t[a-la-ti KUB 35.74, 8’ (CTH 762, NS)

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – Otten 1953a:97 n. 172 still reads ú-i-ta-a-at??-ti at KUB 35.73, 7’, which cannot be entirely excluded, but is less likely given the abl./instr. form ša-hu-i-da-la-ti in the preceding line. Just as improvable is the relationship to the other words Otten adduces in this context.

[E.R.]

1.1.4Meaning

The two tiny fragments do not offer any information about the meaning of the lexeme, especially since the other words in the context are either unclear themselves or incomplete. Therefore, Melchert (CLL:271) and Tischler 2008a:228 do not attempt at a translation.

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

Due to the ambiguity of the abl./instr. form in -āti, neither stem nor gender can be ascertained. Both a neuter noun in -āl- and a (substantivized) adjective in -āl(i)- remain possible.

1.1.6Origin
