†lmnlia
1.1.1Transmission
van den Hout 1999a:41 proposes segmenting a word lmnlia ‘decree’ in C.Ka 5, 16, which, according to him, would be a substantivized neuter plural -lli(ya)- derivative (he must have meant -alla(/i)- with -iya-) ‘*the things proclaimed’ from a stem lmn-, a cognate of Luwian lamanissa- ‘to proclaim?’ (see s.v.). Setting aside that this specific derivation is formally not possible (since -alla(/i)- are not deverbal suffixes and the regular reflex should have been †lmnλia, Adiego 2007a:248f., 260), lmnlia is attested in the entirely opaque sequence ouobimslmnlia and there is no hint whatsoever for the correct segmentation (van den Hout identifies °ms° as an ending, for which there is no evidence, and for instance Adiego 2007a:454 segments ouo bi mslmnlia instead, because he identifies the particle bi [see s.v.] in this sequence). Accordingly, there is no evidence for the existence of this Carian word.
