‘strategos, commander of an army, general’1.1.1Transmission
The word is attested in the so-called Longer Strategos Votive Inscription of unknown date (see the discussion s.v. śa) and in the Shorter Strategos Votive inscription from Side (Nollé 2001a:630 dates it to the end of the 4th / beginning of the 3rd c., see there for discussion), both from Side.

The attestations follow Pérez Orozco 2007a:136 checked against the photographs in Darga 1967a:Res. 8 (= Neumann 1968a:Taf. I.2 = Brixhe 1969a:Planche II) and Zinko & Zinko 2019a:426 Fig. 21.5. Its attestation in S3, 1 is doubtful, since it may belong to a word iśtratageja, see s.v.

1.1.3Graphic Features
The transcription ‹ś› for the sign N14 has been introduced by Pérez Orozco 2003a:104 following the proposal of G. Neumann. This transcription was rejected by Zinko & Zinko 2019a:419–421 (cf. already Zinko 2016a:361) claiming that ‹ś› (transcribed by them as ‹s›) continues Proto-Anatolian / PIE *s and ‹s› (N15, transcribed by them as ‹s2›) was an “Allophon (?!)” of it, without defining the circumstances. Since this is not a sufficient argumentation, the transcription of Pérez Orozco is maintained here, without any phonetic implication, which obviously requires further research.
