1.1.3Meaning
The Palaic word pikku[(-) is broken off, so that we cannot know whether it is complete or not. It occurs in a sentence together with the eagle that was sent to look for the missing deity. It may be related to the Indo-European word for ‘small livestock’ attested in Lyc. B pasba- (<< PIE *pek̑u-), thought to be behind the Hittite logogram UDU-u- (Weitenberg 1984a:62f., Tischler 2008a:144). However, there is also a Hittite verbal noun attested in the genitive singular, i.e. pikkuwaš (HEG P:611f.), to which it could be related instead. One should also compare the personal name mPikku- (Bilgin 2018a:256). Unfortunately, the Palaic lexeme will remain obscure until the full context is recovered.
