Zahlhaas & Neumann 1994a:165f. suggest that the base of Carian u/wśoλ (see s.v.), i.e. *uś° is attested in the Carian name Υσσις (Zgusta 1964a:529 §1629-1; Blümel 1992a:27; LGPN V.B:419), to which they cite several other derivatives attested in Carian names preserved in Greek spelling as well as allegedly connected Anatolian toponyms. The author’s proposal is definitely possible, even if it cannot currently be ascertained.
