The personal name Γδαβα- is found as nom. sg. Γδαβα (N 12) and as gen. sg. Γδαβος (N 10, N 11, N 27) (Brixhe 2016a:81-83, 88 with further literature). It has been connected to the Lycian derivational base of the verb xñtawa-(ti) ‘to rule’, i.e. *xñtawa- (Hajnal 1994a:147 n. 33-34, 149 n. 40, Melchert 2013c:35, Simon 2017a:31-32). Hajnal 1994a:147 n. 34 claims that Lyc. A *xñtawa- is attested in Lycian B as xñtaba-, which he translates as ‘kingship’. However, this semantic assignment is not supported contextually and appears to go back to a different type of formation (see under lemma). For the derivational chain and the semantics involved in Lyc. A *xñta-wa- or -we/i- see Rieken & Sasseville 2014a:308. For a potential attested cognate, see Car. kδou-.
