1.1.4Meaning
No semantic interpretation has been offered yet (HW 2nd ed. Ḫ:193, Tischler 2008a:44). Dardano 1997a:64 n. 88 explicitly expresses doubts regarding the connection with ḫantalliya(i)-(zi). The context being as fragmentary as it is, the only clue to the meaning of the word is the likely derivational relationship with ḫantil(i)- ‘first’, which is assumed here. If correct, the verb would mean something like ‘to be/make/treat first(?)’.

1.1.5Stem
The imperfective stem in -i-ške/a-(mi) may belong to one of a number of base words, but the most straightforward derivational chain would be ḫantil(i)- ‘first’ → *ḫantili(ya)- ‘to be/make/treat first(?)’ vel sim. → impf. ḫandiliške/a-(mi).
[E.R.]
1.1.6Origin
Luwian origin is assumed in Melchert 2005a:448 and accepted here, based on the derivational relationship with Luw. ḫantil(i)- ‘first’ (see under Stem).
