1.1 Luwian in Hittite transmission

lamarḫandatti(ya)-

‘related to setting the hour’

1.1.1Transmission

The attestations of the lexeme and the stems related to it with Luwian endings and/or gloss wedges are restricted to the Festival for all the Tutelary Deities from the Late Hittite period.

[E.R.]

1.1.2Forms

nom. sg. la-mar-ḫa-an-da-at-ti-eš KUB 2.1 ii 40 (CTH 682, NS)

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Konkordanz. – The spelling with single -m- (contrary to usual lammar) is considered defective, due to the length of the word.

[E.R.]

1.1.4Meaning ‘related to setting the time’

For the meaning, see under lamarḫandatta(/i)-.

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

Before and after lines ii 38-40 in the list of Tutelary Deities in KUB 2.1, DLAMMA functions as the indirect object in the dat./loc. sg. within the elliptic clause, whereas DLAMMA(-aš) is in the nom. sg. in ii 38-40. Therefore, contrary to the analysis in CLL:52, lamarḫandattieš is most easily interpreted as a relational adjective in -i(ya)- in the nom. sg., a functional near-equivalent to the genitival adjective in the parallel qualification of DĀla- (ibid. iii 46).

[E.R.]

1.1.6Origin

The common derivational basis with Luwian lamarḫandattašša/i- (see under Lemma) as well as the use of the productive Luwian suffix -i(ya)- speak clearly for the Luwian origin of the word.

[E.R.]

For the lemma head see PAnat. *Hant-.
