‘reign’1.1.1Transmission
Hapax in a stele with a priest list (among others) from Hyllarima, the Carian heading is dated to 320 or 320/319 (Adiego 2019b:20–22).

The attestation follows Adiego 2019b:18f. checked against the photograph in Laumonier 1934a:347 Fig. 26. Adiego 2019b:23f. claims that it “should be” analysed as the locative singular of an a-stem, but locative is unattested in Carian until now. Moreover, formally speaking we are dealing with the dative singular of an o-stem and the dative as dativus temporis can also fulfil the contextual requirements (see under Meaning).

1.1.3Meaning ‘reign’
The word and its meaning were convincingly identified by Adiego 2019b:18f., 23f. on contextual grounds: it is followed by a king’s name in genitive (piĺipuś) and a dating formula (and perhaps by a preposition meaning ‘under’, see the discussion s.v. Carian δa). Although Adiego refers also to Carian kδou- ‘king, ruler’ as a further support (cf. already Adiego, Debord & Varinlioğlu 2005a:617f.), there is in fact no evidence for this meaning, see s.v.
